Scholarships/Awards Available for Practicing NP's

Dear Colleagues, On behalf of the Nurse Practitioner Healthcare Foundation, I am delighted to send you the information below regarding 2 scholarships and 15 awards for the 2008-2009 academic year that are available to nurse practitioner graduate students (master's, post-master's, DNP, or PhD) and for 2 year projects by practicing nurse practitioners. The attached press release may be forwarded to your members, giving them information and the website link to the applications. The application deadline for these is November 28, 2008. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Nurse Practitioner Healthcare Foundation Announces Scholarships & Awards Program Bellevue, WA, November 1, 2008 – The Nurse Practitioner Healthcare Foundation today announced its 2008-2009 Student Scholarships & Awards Program. This program includes 2 scholarships and 15 awards for practicing nurse practitioners or nurse practitioners currently enrolled in an accredited master’s or doctoral degree program. Applications are available on the NPHF website (http://www.nphealthcarefoundation.org). Scholarships and awards are available for the 2008-2009 academic year in the following areas: 1. NPHF/Procter & Gamble Endowed Scholarship in Community Service- awarded to an NP student who has made a significant positive leadership contribution on campus, in the community, or in patient care while in the pursuit of an advanced degree. One scholarship will be awarded. Amount of award: $1,000 (Endowed scholarship through an educational grant from Procter & Gamble) 2. NPHF/Procter & Gamble Endowed Scholarship in Gastroenterology- awarded to an NP student whose clinical and/or research interests are in the field of gastroenterology. One scholarship will be awarded. Amount of award: $1,000 (Endowed scholarship through an educational grant from Procter & Gamble) 3. NPHF/sanofi-pasteur Health Through Immunizations Awards- three (3) awards will be given to NPs whose research or educational project is in the area of immunizations. Each recipient will receive an initial award of $2,500. Upon completion of the project, an additional $1,000 will be awarded to each recipient to support project dissemination (e.g., travel expenses for presenting at a national meeting; editing a paper for publication; preparing a poster, etc.). Project must be completed within 2 years. The target audience may be patients, the general public, or healthcare professionals. Three (3) awards will be made. Amount of each award: $3,500 (Supported through an educational grant from sanofi pasteur) 4. NPHF/Pfizer Community Innovations Grant Program- eight (8) awards will be given to practicing NPs or NP graduate students to foster innovation at the local community level in areas of service, education, or research. Grants will be awarded based on the quality of project, the target community and the anticipated value of the project to the community. Each recipient will receive an initial award of $2,500. Upon completion of the project, an additional $500 will be awarded to each recipient for dissemination of outcomes. The project must be completed within 2 years. Eight (8) awards will be made. Amount of each award: $3,000 (Supported through an educational grant from Pfizer, Inc.) 5. NPHF/Alpharma Pain Management Awards- four (4) awards will be given to graduate nurse practitioner students to support research or educational projects related to pain management. Priority will be given to projects that target pain relief while avoiding misuse/abuse/diversion. Each recipient will receive an initial award of $3,500. Upon completion of the project, an additional $1,500 will be award to each recipient to support project dissemination (e.g., travel expenses for presenting at a national meeting; editing a paper for publication; preparing a poster, etc.). The project must be completed within 2 years. Four (4) awards will be made.
