Hi, I was trained to recheck an ASCUS pap in 3 months. When HPV testing came about, I was told that if you had an ASCUS Pap AND one of the high risk strains to HPV to send directly to GYN for colposcopy.
Jean tells me that she has been yelled at by a GYN for sending in and not waiting, and that at a recent conference she heard that waiting was the correct decision.
I did a hunt for answers, and find a lot of different opinions. I also find that strain 16 or 18 has VERY high rates of malignancy. Do you have any idea what the current best plan is ?
Wait for all and recheck in 3 months ?
Wait for all high risk strains EXCEPT 16 and 18 ?
Rerfer all high risk ASCUS ?
Thanks,
Robert
